Follow Up

My friend sent me an e-mail today. He starts: "this isn't meant to put any more pressure on you".... "but we have a temporary open position in our department for a background researcher". Pay would be $A65k. After the election the position might become permanent and there could be a promotion. I'm not quite ready for this yet. I think the positive is that there are opportunities out there. But I'd like to learn more about what they are first and settle down a bit. My ideal position would be half time in the afternoon in the City Centre. Unlikely there is such a position of course.

Part time in the afternoon in the city center? Sounds like my ideal job as well. And paying like a fulltime position...

Unfortunately, as you say, jobs like that are few and far between.

A65k is not bad, but if you already have enough money to support yourself, you can turn it down and keep looking

The idea would be to do another job during the slowest part of the trading day. My friend actually suggested that the position could be part-time. My strategy involves putting on trading positions around the US market close or shortly after and then working on them more in the evening/early night Oz time. Not much happens during the Asian/Australian afternoon. Futures markets start moving once Europe opens in our evening.

what's a background researcher?

It's not original academic research but some kind of economics research, getting info. I didn't dig further. This is for the Federal Industry Department relating to foreign investment in Australia.
