Weekend Links

John Mauldin's latest weekly letter is all about the weakening US Dollar and the Federal Reserve. Included is this great video! :) We've been watching Ben Bernanke in the Introductory Economics course I teach. We use the textbook the coauthored with Robert Frank and keep uptodate on his progress. And then this crazy real estate listing! That wild insider trading case again, and, finally, an article on renting vs. buying from the Economist.

OK, this real estate ad is fantastic. I'm printing it. Also the Economist clip is right in line with what we observe locally. If I didn't have kids and the wife, I think I'd ditch the digs and rent for a decade at a lower cost. Go ahead and look at OLA but as I said multiple balls in the air however, I have bought claymore funds before and they run a decent ship and don't take extreme risk. I think it's about as close to a Long Short Hedge fund plus calls you can buy and you don't have to share 20% of the profits plus the 2% plus management fee.

Thanks! OLA is the kind of thing I am looking for for long-term investment - some assets that there will be no need to sell - something one can really buy and hold. I'll put it on my watchlist and see how it performs.
